First Form Latin is a grammar-based introduction to Latin that provides a firm foundation for upper school Latin study. There is a strong emphasis on vocabulary and English derivatives as well as parts of speech and how they function in both Latin and English. The class time will consist of instructor led discussions of the new vocabulary, derivatives and grammatical concepts for each lesson, instructor assisted work on drills and exercises in the student workbook, fun learning games, and oral drills. Some parts of the workbook will be left for the student to complete at home during the week as part of preparation for the lesson quiz or unit test. There will be either a lesson quiz or a unit test to be proctored at home by a parent each week. The completed work will be graded by the instructor and returned by the next class period.
