Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) is an excellent writing program that I have used with my own children as well as taught in co-ops. It is especially beneficial for those who struggle with what to write or how to get their ideas on paper. In IEW, students will learn a variety of tools to use in their writing. Starting with making keyword outlines and summaries, students will learn to use “dress-ups” to make any paper more interesting. The IEW program builds a great foundation by introducing a structure that students can use to express their thoughts in a logical and meaningful way.
“Having the skill to express ideas in writing is foundational; therefore, we are primarily concerned with teaching structure and style rather than content. Once basic skills are learned, any type of writing assignment becomes easier and more effective.” (IEW)
