Extreme Science Carole Cannon
This is a hands-on class with experiments galore! This class will incorporate all the
major science categories: Physical Science, Chemistry, and Biology. We will create
and learn about Hydroponic gardening, build a terrarium that we will monitor, add to,
and change throughout the year. We will study the carbon cycle and learn about our
carbon footprint. Students will utilize scientific measuring as those used in
laboratories with weight, volume, density, temperature, and ph with real laboratory
supplies. We will examine classification of life forms and construct a food web chain
of 'who eats whom'. We will experiment with energy, solar energy, electricity, and
Newton's three laws. We will scientifically evaluate soaps, detergents, toothpaste,
and soda, as well as concoct our own. We will work with owl pellets, dirt, water, and
live worms. Students will perform a lab on finger prints and crime solving. We will do
a study on understanding the human senses that will tie into the physics concept of
sound and light. We will explore the use of microscopes and make our own slides. At
the end of the year, we will have a science show where kids will display their own
invention and discovery at CERC!
