Trust in the Lord
with all your heart,
and lean not on
understanding.  In
ALL your ways,
acknowledge HIM,
and HE will make
your paths straight.

Writing, Grammar and Speech                                Susanne Johnson

Interactive and affirming, this course encourages students to gain confidence in
expressing themselves in writing and public speaking. Tucked away in our memories
are colorful, intense, humorous, and unique stories. By using sensory
language-what we've seen, heard, smelled and touched-we can describe these
moments so that the reader feels he is there. Leo Tolstoy calls this the "art of
writing." Students will also learn to use sentence variety from IEW as well as
structure within paragraphs. Students will write two or three AP level,
fully-developed, color coded paragraphs taught in Structure Writing. Also, students
will learn five-paragraph essays (one paragraph per week at first): introductory
paragraph with thesis statement, body paragraph including topic sentence, support,
and transition sentence, and concluding paragraph. Excellent grammar program
on-line with instant feedback is optional.

For the speech credit: Students will participate in Method (How To) demonstrations,
impromptu and a Informative Speech about favorite topics, activities, or hobbies.
MLA Research Standard Research skills will be implemented as students prepare for
their informative speech
Parents are encouraged to assist in proofreading final
drafts for mechanical errors and to assist students in preparation and practice for
demonstrations.
