Preparing to Read                                                                                       Liz Hach

In preparation for reading, children need to learn the sounds of the alphabet.  Each
class day, we will learn a letter of the alphabet, its sound and shape through
crafts, activities, songs and treats.  Through the activities and songs, we will
discover how each letter is unique.  Students will create an alphabet book and
phonics flashcards.  By May, students will be ready for an introduction to blends
and one-vowel words.
