Trust in the Lord
with all your heart,
and lean not on

ALL your ways,
acknowledge HIM,

Study Skills/PSAT Reading Prep                                                 Renee Bridgman
This class is designed to prepare middle school students through 9th graders for high
school and beyond, including preparation for the reading and writing sections of the
PSAT. The PSAT or "Pre-SAT" can be taken for practice in the 10th grade, and for
official National Merit Scholarship standings in the 11th grade. A high score on the
PSAT could mean significant money, perhaps a full ride, at many universities. The fall
semester will primarily focus on study skills, such as time management, using the
syllabus, improving concentration, note-taking, etc. The spring semester will
primarily focus on PSAT reading and writing skills and test-taking strategies. Both
semesters will emphasize vocabulary building and reading, through weekly quizzes
and summary/critiques of selected readings.
Parents and students will evaluate an
appropriate commitment level for assignments based on the student's specific needs.
