American History and Literature                                                                 Shari Nelson

Seeking to cover all the nuances of American History in one year is a daunting task.
This course will use Bob Jones University Press'
United States History for Christian
Schools
, 3rd Edition as the textbook. By the end of the year, students will have "read
their way" through the entire history of our country from a strong Biblically centered
point of view. In class, we will seek to focus on key events and individuals that are
most important for students to think about and remember by using Veritas Press
cards. Making their own set of cards, students will be able to "think their way"
through 30 key aspects of American History when the year is complete. Most
importantly, focus will be placed on God's part of our American story since He is the
true author.

The literature part of this course (counting as an English credit) will include reading
and discussing various titles that will bring certain periods of American History to life.
Some titles will be source texts, others will be historical novels. Each is carefully
chosen to enhance the student's understanding of our American History, particularly
from a Biblical worldview.
