Picturing America: Art Appreciation and History                                 Betsy Hoover

In this art appreciation course, the students will study American history through some of
our nation’s greatest artistic masterpieces.  They will describe, analyze, discuss and
interpret American works of art from Anasazi pottery and Paul Revere’s teapot to Sargent’
s ‘Portrait of a Boy’ and Romare Bearden’s ‘ The Dove’.  The class will cover a wide range
of paintings, sculptures, photographs, architecture, and even a few quilts.  Students will
earn a high school fine arts/humanities credit.

Materials needed:  spiral notebook, pen/pencil
